Best Scuba Diving Places in Latin America

Scuba diving is a great sport which you will enjoy mentally as well as physically. The breathtaking scenery and natural views that can be had under water is just the background to all of the oceanic wildlife creatures that can be seen. One of the best places in the world to go scuba diving or snorkeling is in Latin America. Not only do most of the sites there contain some of the most exotic waters to dive in, but they are some of the most affordable as well. Another great reason to try some of the locations in Latin America is that you do not have to be an expert to do the dives. Many awe inspiring dives are contoured for the beginner. No matter what your age range or ability, you will be able to have a memorable time. A few spots which any scuba diver or snorkeler should visit are:

Great Blue Hole (Belize)

This is a large cylindrical sink hole which is seen as a blue color due to the lighting effects through the water at 1/4 mile in depth. Lighthouse Reef is home to this site where you can snorkel or dive to meet all types of life in the water, eye to mask.

Little Corn (Nicaragua)

This is a great place where you should be prepared for the simpler life. No motor cars allowed, but plenty of Caribbean aquatic life, including the peaceful shark lumbering past. There are also numerous caverns and caves to explore here as well, so be sure to bring an underwater flashlight.

Galapagos Islands (Ecuador)

This area is known for much more than its infamous turtles. The islands here are rich with a terrific array of creatures in and out of the water. Each island provides a chance to explore the natural underwater flora and see some wildlife which you would usually only get to see in a book.

Los Roques (Venezuela)

If your type of exploring includes going where no one has gone before, then this is a great location to bring your scuba gear. With nothing around but peace and quiet, you can see some of the purest waters and feel some of the cleanest sand. While snorkeling or scuba diving, you can spend time cataloging hundreds of vivid aqueous creatures without almost any disturbance.

Cayos Cochinos (Honduras)

This is the ultimate place to go if you want room to roam. There are several reefs and tiny caves, which are easy to get to line the coastal regions of Honduras. These shallow areas continue for miles. Not only will you get great glimpses of exotic and almost unknown animals underwater, but also some favorites to meet such as seahorses and squid.

No matter what location in Latin American you decide to try out first, be sure to put the area on your scuba diving itinerary. Many of these locations have some great guides and tours which will help you to make the most out of your Latin American scuba diving or snorkeling experience.
