In today’s increasingly computerised world, fewer and fewer people are travelling with substantial amounts of cash on them. It has come to be convenient, for both practical and security reasons, to instead use debit and credit cards and a number of businesses, even small ones, now offer electronic payment services.

Merchant services are incredibly useful for this. To define, they are processing services that enable on-site electronic payment methods to be accepted and processed immediately. This is generally done via a cash swipe reader or chip-and-pin device linked to a cash register. This benefits both customer and business; it is simple, fast and reliable and as such is ideal for a number of industries.

Merchant services also promise security. As the payment is processed immediately, the business is assured that they have received payment for their services. As the payment is secure, the customer leaves without worry, knowing that their details are safe and protected from theft.

Unlike the majority of its customers, the hotel industry never sleeps. Transactions are fast and numerous. Payment is usually made by card rather than in cash and customer satisfaction is the main ingredient for commercial success. Customers check in to hotels and motels for rest, security and efficient service. They are there to be taken care of and before reaching the room or the restaurant, this begins with the front desk.

Check-in and check-out procedures form a large part of a customer’s experience. They will generally be in a hurry to get to their room or get back on the road, so the process of paying the bill and all other transactions should involve minimal time, effort and hassle.

It is important to note that top merchant services for motels allow efficiency from the moment a guest books a room. Rather than having to scramble through papers, the computerised service keeps up to date with availability and allocates a room to a customer as soon as credit card details are given. While they are guaranteed a room, the hotel or motel is insured because, should the customer cancel after the agreed deadline, his stored card details can be used to deduct a cancellation payment.

As such, any suspicions or worries from either party are allayed on customer arrival and check-in is made as simple as a few clicks of a button, a perfunctory smile and the handing over of a key. With high-quality service of this kind, even the smallest of motels can seem as professional as a major chain.

Many major cities have a rich art heritage, but some cities are so steeped in art history that tourists will flock to them specifically for that purpose. Travel companies have identified the demand for art tours. Consequently, art lovers can now visit the home cities of famous artists, from Pierre-Auguste Renoir in Paris to Rembrandt in Amsterdam.

Paris and Amsterdam

Paris and Amsterdam are two of the best cities in the world for art lovers to visit, with the French capital being the centre of the Impressionist Movement in the late 19th Century. Amsterdam has been famous for centuries for being home to many great artists. Aside from Rembrandt, tours are available relating to artists such as Johannes Vermeer and Vincent van Gogh.

Italian Art and the Renaissance

Italy is probably the country with the richest cultural history in the Western World. Beginning with the classical sculptures of the Romans, Italy has had a massive influence on art and culture around the globe. The Renaissance, which began in the 1300s, saw great leaps forward in art, science and exploration. Florence, Rome and Venice were three of the cities that were the most significant during the Renaissance period, which produced artistic geniuses Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael.

There are tours to Rome that focus on this magical city’s art and history and Renaissance tours to Venice and museum and art tours to Florence. Other Italian cities rich in culture include Milan, Turin, Naples and Genoa.

Spanish Art and Culture

Spain is another country which will greatly appeal to lovers of art, with Madrid and Barcelona being two of the most culturally rich cities in Europe. The work of Pablo Picasso can be seen on an art tour to Madrid and Barcelona provides art and architecture tours that take in the magnificent Barcelona Cathedral, which was designed by Gaudi.

A Whole World of Art

Art and culture tours are not only available to European countries, but also to America and Australia. Whether it’s seeing great works of art close up, or being inspired by a room a great artist worked in, art tours help in giving an art lover a very real understanding of an artist and their work.

This great cities offer exhibitions dedicated to the artists’ work but also, the culture of the city helps you to imagine the influences that lent themselves to the artist’s style and development.

The Ultimate Travel Company have partnered with The Tate to create Tate Travels which have tours to Oslo to explore the work of Edvard Munch, a tour to Madrid to see the influence behind Picasso’s Guernica and many more.

When I was a child, my dad had a whole cupboard filled with slides from the holidays we went on. That was the memory closet, and when often during restless summer days I would go to it. Taking one by one out, as not to disturb the order that my father had so thoughtfully created, I sat on the floor looking at them. Tedious as it was, I tried to recapture the moments from an image the size of a stamp.

Happily, there are new ways of holding on to such images. They are improving at a rapid pace also, but the mere fact that we have progressed to a point where we can flip a switch and watch the key times experienced on a trip. Plus, the equipment that makes it possible can be found in the size of a camera the size of a pack of playing cards.

If you are planning a journey that you would like to memorialize then now is a great time to invest in a pocket sized camcorder to make it a reality. Many will shoot HD movies while simultaneously saving the info for high quality photos. Uploading is as easy as connecting a USB plug. Thus, you can share the experience with friends and family both local and far and wide.

Las Vegas one of those cities that has something for everyone, regardless of age. Although the casinos are the highlight of Las Vegas tourism, visitors find much more to do than just gamble, dine and watch shows. In fact, these days it is possible to have a fun-filled holiday in Las Vegas without ever setting foot in a casino. Regardless of your age, interest or budget, this desert city something to offer everyone!

Adult Entertainment

Long known as “Sin City,” Las Vegas attracts big spenders from all walks of life who come to soak up the luxurious settings, watch the showgirls and try their luck at the gambling games. The dazzling lights on the facades flanking the Vegas Strip are just a taste of the flashy extremes inside the hotels and casinos. Like little worlds all their own, these establishments sweep their guests into a state of enchantment where delights wait around every corner and time seems to stand still. Top entertainers perform for guests while they enjoy meals prepared by 5 star chefs and cocktails prepared by a mixologist. Adults can indulge in hedonistic pleasures in a safe environment where the biggest risk is to your wallet at the gambling tables.

Young Adults

For the 18 to 21 year old set, it can be frustrating to be denied entrance to those glittering casinos but there are still plenty of things to do. Some of the tamer magic shows, comedy performers and dance acts will let you in if you are over 18. There are enough adventure activities to fill an amusement park, including race car driving, indoor skydiving, downtown zip lines and thrill rides. Video gamers will find everything from retro games like pinball to cutting edge arcade games with virtual reality suits offering full contact sensations.

Families with Kids

Not everything in Las Vegas is adult oriented and families find delightful ways to spend their time even though kids are only allowed in casino hotels unless their parents are registered. Around the city are great venues where children can watch dolphins playing, see flocks of flamingos in gardens and aquariums in restaurants. Older kids enjoy riding the rollercoasters or taking the go carts out for a spin. Magic shows are presented daily that are just for kids and they love touring museums with movie memorabilia and Wild West themes.

Seniors

The over 65 set also find that Vegas is full of attractions that are just their speed and fit nicely even into a frugal budget. Around the city, local groups offer activities to seniors for free like bingo, dancing socials, community gardening and fitness sessions in swimming pools. Museums offer fascinating exhibits and lecture series for a nominal fee.

Click here for great deals on a vacation getaway to Vegas and resorts in Las Vegas at Virgin Holidays.

Christmas is now a distant memory and the chilly weather is slowly but surely moving on, making it an ideal time to start planning your 2012 family holiday.

Travelling with kids can seem like a daunting prospect. Cheap holidays to Spain can be a great first holiday for families with young children, as are holidays to Turkey (another family favourite).

There’s a whole world of options to explore, so aim to find a place that is right for you and your brood, with a relatively short travelling time and that offers something to please everyone.

Benidorm, Spain

Picking one of the many hotels in Benidorm can be the ticket to a fun-packed family holiday to remember. This coastal town in the south of Spain is known for being home to some of the liveliest child-friendly bars and restaurants as well as some top attractions.

Adrenaline junkies will love Benidorm’s Terra Mítica Fun Park, the largest theme park in Europe, which offers rides for all ages as well as street performers and spectacular shows.

Other excursions include Mundomar, a marine life paradise, and Aqualandia, an immense waterpark with pools, flumes and lagoons.

Marmaris, Turkey

Holidays to Turkey have become increasingly popular in the last ten years. The port city of Marmaris is an alternative to holidays in Spain, offering beautiful beaches, stunning weather (reaching approximately 35 degrees C at the height of summer) and an extensive range of activities for the family.

Traditionally a fishing town, Marmaris welcomes tourism, which is now their financial backbone. As well as some of the best waterparks in the Mediterranean (AquaDream is not to be missed), nearby Cleopatra Island is home to beaches that are known for their super soft sands.

Rome, Italy

Spending your days eating fine Mediterranean food and drinking wonderful wines in a city that oozes history and culture makes Rome an excellent city destination for your family holiday.

The city is brimming with historical sites such as the Colosseum, where vicious gladiator and animal fights brought in crowds in their thousands, and the Trevi Fountain, one of the largest and most well-known fountains in the world. There is no better way to whet a child’s appetite for history than by living it and only a select number of places bring it to life quite like Rome.

It would almost be a sin to visit Rome and not eat a true Italian pizza. Enjoy a simple, fresh piece of mozzarella heaven and put your meat feast days well behind you.

Coral Bay, Cyprus

Although having lots to do is great for keeping everyone occupied, those who prefer to spend their holidays kicking back and relaxing will feel right at home in Coral Bay.

Cyprus can seem a little pricier than other holidays in the Mediterranean, however, if you are planning to spend your days lazing on a lounger, with your children happily occupied building sandcastles and splashing in the pool, you can save a fortune in attraction tickets, while having luxurious surroundings to relax in.

Menorca, Spain

Travelling with the family can be expensive, though it is still possible to find some excellent cheap holidays to Spain. Many have visited the holiday hot spot Majorca, but if you instead consider its slightly quieter sister island, Menorca, you should find a good deal surprisingly easy.

Although a holiday in Menorca is predominantly based around sun, sea and sand, watersports and little shopping towns are also a pleasurable way to spend a day.

Should the kids get a little temperamental, a trip to Cala’n Forcat with its waterslides and trampolines bids a day away from bathing in the beautiful beaches and soaking in the stunning scenery.

Puerto De La Cruz, Tenerife

The Canary Islands are a popular destination for UK holiday makers. Tenerife is typically known for its year-round warm weather and its lively nightlife. However, if the latter of the two usually strikes this destination off your list, Puerto De La Cruz in the north of the island is a family-friendly destination which still benefits from the gorgeous Canaries climate.

Like the rest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife offers stunning sands and wondrous waters. Puerto De La Cruz has three volcanic sand beaches as well as being home to the largest salt water lake pool in the Canaries, Lago de Martianez. The pool is surrounded by refreshment areas, which can get particularly busy during peak season.

If splashing and swimming gets a little tiring, Loro Parque brings children up close to wetland wildlife including penguins, dolphins and orcas.

Whatever destination you choose, discovering any of the best places in the Mediterranean is the perfect way to spend your summer.

The scenario for the 2012 London Olympics is a far cry from what existed for the last Olympics in London back in 1948. The picture at that time was one of more than austerity, it had reached the point of rationing amongst its citizens. As for those who were competing, there were no new facilities like this go round. In fact, some of the athletes stayed in military huts in Richmond Park.

Even though Londoners are in austerity zone, funds to build major new sports venues have been available. In addition, close to fifteen billion in funds has already been spent upon grooming the capital for the event. Not to mention what has been funneled into providing free cultural activities to the visitors.

So, while things are meant to be on the thrifty side for the country, apparently some things can’t be downsized when under a microscope for the world to see. Some would say that if these measures create a higher level of safety for those involved, then it is worth every penny. Based upon the state of the world in this day, I would strongly agree.

Having island hopped for over a decade, I consider myself a well-rounded cruiser, so I was embarrassed when a friend asked my opinion on the P&O Cruise Line. How had I managed to never board one of the ships in their luxury armada? P&O Cruises is the oldest cruise operation in world, having transported its first passengers in the 19th century. Originally known as the Peninsular and Orient Steam Navigation Company, P&O cruises has been operating for over 175 years. There was no way I could consider myself any type of cruise specialist if I had never gazed at the stars from a P&O deck. It is the jewel of the British cruise market, after all.

P&O Virgin Cruises operates out of Southampton, England, and my friend was alarmed that I hadn’t at least taken a weekend jaunt over to Bruges.

“I love Bruges,” he said. “They call it the Venice of the north. They have great beer in Belgium. The monks created it. It’s potent stuff. The glasses they pour it in are a bit silly. You know what’s even better than the beer?”

“Let me guess, I said. “Belgium chips?”

Bruges or no Bruges, I decided to plan a surprise holiday for my wife on the P&O Cruise Line. There are seven ships in the P&O fleet. These ships are divided into a host of subcategories. The idea is to attempt to cater to all types of clientele, and to provide them with the exact type of ship they are looking for. Let me break it down. The Aurora, Oriana and Artemis celebrate a more traditional cruise experience. The Azura, Ventura and Arcadia cater to a younger crowd. The amenities on these ships are more contemporary. Some P&O ships are child free, while others welcome families and children of all ages. This is an excellent model for a cruise holiday. Families will not have an excuse to blame partying twenty-somethings for their bad holiday experience, and twenty-somethings will not have to listen to screaming kids all day.

My wife and I opted for the Azura. Why did we choose that liner? It has four pools, an outdoor cinema, hi-tech gym, dance floors, twelve bars and eleven different places to indulge in some top-of-the-line cuisine. I spent the day sunning myself on the deck like some type of tropical snake, and in the late afternoon I went for a swim in a different pool each day. One of the pools even has a sliding glass roof in case it rains. British weather can be fickle. We left Southampton for a 10-day jaunt through the Mediterranean. Maybe next year we will pop over to Bruges for a quick Chimay.

Excited about taking a cruise? Book cheap cruises from Southampton with Virgin and see what it can save you.

I did not know at the time anything about Electric Zebra cigarettes but now I sure do. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a woman smoking what looked like a cigarette at the table next to me, but what was most peculiar was that I did not smell it. Now, I believe my sense of smell to be my greatest sense, so this left me curious.

Oh yes, I might also add that the cigarette was decorated in a Zebra stripe pattern, which again was not something I had seen before. I refrained from saying anything, as it was not bothering me, but waited for the waitress to lay into her. Then came the greatest surprise, the waitress and she had a pleasant conversation, of which I could hear every word, and no mention of the smoking was made. So, yes, curiouser and curiouser. I became.

Then, I thought perhaps she might be a celebrity, for why else would the no smoking rule be relaxed for this lady? Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore, I wanted to know who this famous person was, so I turned around and inadvertently made direct eye contact. Nope, not a clue who she could be. Finally, she left and I could outright ask the waitress for her name.

Turns out, she is just a regular customer, and she was smoking an electric cigarette. Apparently the wait staff is very familiar with those, and since my waitress must have thought I was complaining, I got an earful. I learned that these e-cigarettes produce no second hand smoke, so they are legal to use everywhere and anywhere (clubs, pubs, and even public transport). That’s when it hit me that this could be some relevant info to pass on to my travel blog followers.

So here goes with some additional pertinent info on the Electric Zebra electric cigarettes to think over. They will give you the same nicotine impact of a regular cigarette, but are lacking all of the fifty substances that have been related to the cause of cancer in the tobacco filled cigs. The e-cigs produce an odour free vapour instead of the harmful, much protested against smoke. So there is nothing for the people around someone using an e-cig to be concerned about and they can feel at ease once they’ve seen the zebra pattern and the definitive green LED light. Hence, if you smoke, these could be a great alternative both at home and when on trips.

While the surrounding oil rich Arabian countries are constructing modern day marvels, there is one local destination where history and culture are being focused upon. The place that has set out on a present day cultural revival is none other than Oman. Thanks to the sultan who rose to power back in the seventies, this has been a constant goal.

The results frame such achievements as some of the grandest hotels, a tremendous yacht accommodation on its coast. Hence, a high rollers paradise, and a playground for those who want to experience the life of a member of royalty. Nothing is spared, if you can yearn for it, they can produce it.

Go here with all of those great supplies you stocked up on at the holiday shop to escape the massive and overpowering skyscrapers. Spend your day light hours amongst the sculptured desert gardens and the evenings in the new opera house. In total, you would have to travel far and wide to formulate even pieces of what this refined quarter offers in one locale.

There is no better place to start when listing locations for a memorable Valentine’s Day than London. The world leading cultural center has an array of five-star hotels and attractive locations, which make it ideal for a romantic trip. If you prefer picturesque countryside to the bright lights of the city, Cornwall is another perfect hotspot in the United Kingdom. The romantic atmosphere at The Westcroft Guesthouse, situated on southeast Cornwall’s Rame Peninsula, is complemented by antique beds, candlelight, and the soothing sounds of the sea.

Caribbean Cruise

A luxury cruise is fast becoming a staple for romantic breaks away. Merely sailing in the sun for several days is sure to be a winner with a loved one. There is also the added bonus of frequenting many of the Caribbean’s idyllic locations.

Maldives

If sunny climes and bronzed beaches are central to your idea of romance, then the Maldives is a great destination for you and your Valentine in February. The beautiful Asian island located in the Indian Ocean is luxury personified. Couples can rent a water bungalow or villa, take part in activities such as surfing and snorkeling, or simply relax and bask in the warm sunshine and enjoy the unique Moldavian cuisine.

Paris

A list of top destinations for romance would not be complete without the ‘City of Love’. The idyllic capital set on the banks of the River Seine is brimming with world-renowned eateries and boutique hotels. The breathtaking views from the iconic Eiffel Tower would cap any romantic evening.

Zambia

While Valentine’s Day conjures up ideas of fine dining and cozy nights in, those aiming to make a lasting impression should consider a Zambian safari for two. Whether you decide to opt for a private villa or a quality resort, the unique setting is ideal for bonding and romance under the stars. You could also hire a car and visit Victoria Falls, which is truly one of the natural wonders of the world.

Romantic Destinations for 2012

There are numerous destinations for those aiming to whisk their partner away for a romantic trip during 2012. Colombia is one of the current hottest locations with the main cities – Cali, Bogota and Medellin – all boasting cultural attractions and gorgeous scenery. Laos and its beautiful ancient capital of Luan Prabang is also the place to be, thanks to its 32 temples, lush nature reserves and colorful streets. Byblos (Lebanon), Capri (Italy), Kayakoy (Turkey), Prince Edward Island (Canada) and Salzburg (Austria) are among the other ideal loved-up locations.

Planning Valentine’s Day

It is important that you are prepared for Valentine’s Day whether you are at home or abroad. Nothing says ‘I love you’ more than breakfast in bed. Start the day with a delicious meal complemented by strawberries, champagne and other heart-shaped accessories. Later in the day, why not indulge in a new experience? Salsa dancing, snowboarding, wine tasting and hot air ballooning are fun-filled activities that couples can enjoy in each other’s company. Finally, surprise your Valentine with a home-cooked evening meal delivered on an all-white table setting for that elegant touch.
