Booking a late holiday can actually help you to save a great deal of money in the long run. While many may think that booking your hotel room and flights in advance is the cheapest way to go, travelling at the last minute offers the best, rock bottom prices for world-class holiday experiences. Whether you’re simply looking to book a hotel stay, purchase airline tickets for your travels or are looking to buy an all inclusive package complete with everything that you need to make the most out of your trip, late holiday deals are the way to go.

Last minute holidays have continued to grow in popularity over the last several years. Even if you do not feel as though you have enough money to enjoy a break away from home, taking advantage of late deals can provide you with the travel experience of your dreams, all on an everyday affordable budget. There are several factors playing a part in their growing demand. This includes online booking and comparison websites, website subscriber discounts and affordable direct flights.

Online Booking and Comparison Websites

Online booking and comparison websites like Holiday Hypermarket play a major role in scoring the best deals around on last minute holidays. In just minutes, users can log on to their favourite travel websites, input their desired dates and be provided with a listing of the latest holidays that have had their prices drastically reduced for late travellers. Searching online makes it simple to compare different holidays with one another. See pricing, travel dates and different features that are included within each package. This gives travellers the option to select the perfect experience for them and book right from the comfort of their computer screen. Last minute holidays are ideal for those who do not have busy schedules and are available to travel at any given time for the lowest prices out there.

Affordable Direct Flights

Direct flights will take you to your desired destination without any layovers or stops along the way – the bane of all frequent travellers. Get from one location to the next quickly and with ease. Last minute flights make it easy to find affordable direct flights, a major perk for those looking to enjoy a holiday on-the-fly, as the low cost carriers tend to drop prices in the days and hours before flying just to fill seats and get the cash flow. You just have to be very vigilant for the best deals.

Subscriber Discounts

Members-only travel clubs give their subscribers the opportunity to save up to 70& off on luxury holidays around the world. Quality holidays and great offers can be found daily with special deals available for last-minute experiences. For those who enjoy travelling a lot, becoming a travel club member could be the right choice for you. With access to hotels and holidays at some of the lowest prices around, you will not find these deals available anywhere else.

Spontaneous Experiences

And lastly, another major driving demand point in late travel packages is the ability to be spontaneous. Take a break from your normal day to day life and live a little on the wild side. Booking a holiday at the last minute can be thrilling, exciting and provide you with an experience that you may have never thought was possible.

Let’s face it: Britain isn’t the best place in the world to live at the moment. The economy is a mess and the weather is more rubbish than ever, with neither showing any real signs of getting better soon. In times like this, it is tempting to just sell your home fast and move to warmer, happier climes. If you are feeling tempted, why not read our guide below of a selection of the more affordable European destinations that could give you the change you need.

Malta

Who wouldn’t want to swap the North Sea for the Mediterranean? Although it doesn’t have the strongest economy in Europe, Malta does benefit from having some of the lowest house prices in the region. If you are scared of learning a new language, you should also be pleased to learn that the official languages are Maltese and English, which should ease the settling in period. Luckily too, whereas there once appeared to be reluctance in hiring people not from the island, since its introduction to the EU the tide appears to be changing, with more people from overseas able to find work, especially in the business sector.

Germany

It is no secret that the German economy is the healthiest in Europe at the moment and, when combined with the lower-than-average house prices, is a very desirable place for many. Although it may not offer the sun and sand that many in Britain crave, with both climates being largely similar, it is a great choice for everyone from party-goers to ramblers. There is a common misconception among many that Germany is largely homogenous with little variation between regions, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. The Black Forest of southern Germany couldn’t be more different from Berlin and Dresden in the east – Germany should cover most tastes. The northern coast also ensures those who wish to wake up with the sound of the tide can do so too.

Spain

Yes, it may be in the middle of its greatest financial crisis for many years, but a 9.6 per cent drop in the average house price from last year shows that if you would like to invest in property in the country, now is the time to do it. Spain offers arguably the best mix in Europe of good weather, historical landmarks and nightlife, with the huge cultural divides between the Basque and Catalan regions for example meaning almost no two towns are the same. If you are bilingual, job chances will be greatly improved, especially as many British firms have offices in Spain too.

Are you fed up with disappointing summer holidays? We spend so long counting the days until we head off to the sun that it is easy to get there and feel a bit let down with a less than perfect time away.

Thankfully there are some ways of making sure that your holiday is as enjoyable and as memorable as it should be.

Ask Other People

The best way to find out the truth about anything is to ask people who have already experienced it. What you need to bear in mind with this approach is that we all have different wants and needs form our holidays. Even if something raves about where they went to last year it is worth asking them for some details to see what was so good about it. Some tourists want to lie on a beach all day and then go the disco while others prefer shopping and sightseeing. Try to take your recommendations from people with the same tastes as you.

Research the Destination

It is easy to get carried away when you see a cheap deal to go somewhere hot. However, you need to think about what the place is really like. The internet is now the best place to research the place, find out about the weather and see photos. You should have a fairly good feel for your possible destination after a few minutes. A good example is with Lake Garda holidays in Italy. The number of stunning photos of this region on the internet means that you will have a fair idea of what lies in store for you. By looking up a detailed travel site such as Eurocamp you can also find out a lot of useful details.

Choose Your Company

Do you prefer going alone, with your partner or with friends?  Going with the wrong company is the surest way to suffer a disappointing holiday. If you are going it alone then this is perfectly fine and indeed it is increasingly common these days. There are also some places which are regarded as better for solo travellers than others and you might want to check some of these out.

Plan Your Activities

What will you do once you get to your destination? It is easy to waste some of your valuable holiday because you don’t know what the options are. You don’t need to type out a detailed itinerary but it could be helpful to have a few ideas up your sleeve for trips you could make and places you could explore.

While seated indoors at a café yesterday, something caught my eye. I did not know at the time anything about Electric Zebra cigarettes but now I sure do. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a woman smoking what looked like a cigarette at the table next to me, but what was most peculiar was that I did not smell it. Now, I believe my sense of smell to be my greatest sense, so this left me curious.

Oh yes, I might also add that the cigarette was decorated in a Zebra stripe pattern, which again was not something I had seen before. I refrained from saying anything, as it was not bothering me, but waited for the waitress to lay into her. Then came the greatest surprise, the waitress and she had a pleasant conversation, of which I could hear every word, and no mention of the smoking was made. So, yes, curiouser and curiouser. I became.

Then, I thought perhaps she might be a celebrity, for why else would the no smoking rule be relaxed for this lady? Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore, I wanted to know who this famous person was, so I turned around and inadvertently made direct eye contact. Nope, not a clue who she could be. Finally, she left and I could outright ask the waitress for her name.

Turns out, she is just a regular customer, and she was smoking an electric cigarette. Apparently the wait staff is very familiar with those, and since my waitress must have thought I was complaining, I got an earful. I learned that these e-cigarettes produce no second hand smoke, so they are legal to use everywhere and anywhere (clubs, pubs, and even public transport). That’s when it hit me that this could be some relevant info to pass on to my travel blog followers.

So here goes with some additional pertinent info on the Electric Zebra electric cigarettes to think over. They will give you the same nicotine impact of a regular cigarette, but are lacking all of the fifty substances that have been related to the cause of cancer in the tobacco filled cigs. The e-cigs produce an odour free vapour instead of the harmful, much protested against smoke. So there is nothing for the people around someone using an e-cig to be concerned about and they can feel at ease once they’ve seen the zebra pattern and the definitive green LED light. Hence, if you smoke, these could be a great alternative both at home and when on trips.

Visiting New York City on holiday is one of the most exciting trips imaginable. From an unbeatable skyline to thousands of shops, restaurants and theatres, the city really does have it all. While it is an incredibly popular tourism destination, it is important to remember that millions of people also call the city home. Keep that in mind when you visit New York City, and follow these tips to experience the location just like you’re a local:

1. Take Public Transportation: While it’s certainly a great idea to ride in an iconic yellow taxi cab while on holiday in New York, consider riding on the subway for a real taste of the city. The inexpensive rides can get you around each of the 5 boroughs quickly, and might even help you to discover a new stop on your itinerary.

2. Dine on Street Food: Of course, there are hundreds of upscale dining establishments that make New York City a dining capital of the world. However, it would be a shame to visit New York City without trying a slice of authentic Brooklyn pizza, a cream cheese bagel for breakfast from a street vendor, or traditional Ethiopian food in Harlem.

3. See a Show: While tourists and locals alike head to see shows in New York City, many tourists spend hours waiting in line for tickets to see a Broadway performance, and then hours waiting to get a great seat. Instead of spending your holiday in line, either save some money and see an Off-Broadway production, or splurge and buy your assigned seat tickets in advance for the more popular performances.

4. Tour the Empire State Building at Night: Although there are lines and crowds to soak up the views from the Empire State Building each day, at night the viewing platforms are nearly empty. Take advantage of this and visit until 2am, when they close. As a bonus, the city looks perhaps even more incredible at night.

5. Shop Like a Local: While Fifth Avenue is known to be the best place to shop in New York City, it is also among the most expensive. Head instead to bargain shops where New Yorkers get deals, such as Century 21 or Filine’s, both of which are just a few streets away from Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

6. Go Out on a Weeknight: Head to one of the large clubs in the cities on a Friday or Saturday night, and you will find hundreds of other tourists. The best time to visit the most popular clubs and lounges is on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday night, when drinks are cheaper than normal.

With these 6 ways to experience the city like a local, you are guaranteed to have a fantastic time in New York City.

Visiting Malaysia

Posted by Remy in Travel Tips

Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy located with Southeastern Asia. The country itself is separated into two separate regions by the South China Sea, creating Peninsula Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo. Surrounded by countries like Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia, Malaysia has a very rich and diverse culture. The capitol city is Lumpur. The name, ‘Malaysia’ is said to be derived from a Sanskrit name that is translated “land of mountains.’ The history of the island dates back thousands of years, and the traditions of the locals still reflect these ancient roots.

One of the main draws of Malaysia for foreigners is its extreme biodiversity. Also known as a ‘megadiverse country,’ it features a high variety of animal species and a vast array of flora and fauna. It is also the only country with a border on the Malay Archipelago and the Asian Mainland. In the Peninsula Region of Malaysia has more than 620 species of birds alone. There are also over 8,000 different types of vascular plants within the same region. The Sulu Sea along the eastern side of Malaysia is a biodiversity hotspot as well, featuring over 600 coral species and 1,000 fish species.

One of the most famous aspects of Malaysia culture is its fine cuisine, ranging from spicy curry to their famous variations of chilli. Much of their food is influenced by Singapore and Thailand cuisine, but the Malaysians out their own twist onto traditional Asian dishes and make them their own. This fantastic cuisine is often associated with the many festivals celebrated within Malaysia. Hari Merdeka is the Malaysian holiday for ‘Independence Day,’ the King’s Birthday and Labour Day. All of these holidays are heralded in with festivities such as parades, fireworks, street vending and lots of food to choose from. There are also many sporting events held in Malaysia, ranging from badminton, field hockey, tennis, bowling, martial arts, skating, sailing and soccer.

At the capitol, visitors can find the Islamic Arts Center, which features both the artistic achievements and discoveries of the Islamic world. They may also visit the Petronas Twin Towers, which dominate the skyline of the capitol city. About 1,000 tickets are sold at the tower every day, so be sure to arrive there early. The Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is the ideal place to view the stunning birds of Malaysia. There are nearly 700 different species hidden with the trees, so be sure to bring your binoculars. Bukit Bintang is a popular urban centre with nightlife and traditional Malaysian cuisine around every corner. The Batu Caves are made of limestone are traditionally used for Hindu festivals and pilgrimages.

The best places to lodge can be found in Kuala Lumpur, the capitol region of Malaysia.

As an independent and frequent traveller getting all the practical arrangements in place to support my trips is important and after time I like to think that I’ve fine tuned the detail. I find that I need a range of foreign currency so that when I arrive its easy to sort out taxis and tips and immediate purchases and that I’m ready to go without any additional hassle. Having looked around I tend to get my Travel Money from the Post Office as they provide for over 70 different currencies. For me, like many who have busy lifestyles, being able to order currency on line from a reliable source and having the currency delivered are important considerations and efficient time savers. Coupled with the fact that the Post Office is also a brick and mortar store and thus the added confidence that comes with buying from such a reputable source.

For me, buying foreign currency back home has some clear advantages including knowledge that I have purchased this at a defined rate and that I won’t be subject to the many undefined charges that many credit cards levy.  Most hotels now have facilities for safe storage of valuables, either within safes in the room or in safety deposit boxes via reception services, so this helps with the security consideration which it is prudent to take into account wherever we are and whatever we are doing. For me, having Travel Money readily available is a distinct advantage on my trips and frees me up to focus on the aims for that particular trip.

Our local farmer’s market offers an impressive variety of locally produced or made food and many of these markets are available in small towns now throughout the UK. Being able to experience the best of local, know that you are doing your bit to support the eco system and support your local producers all give a feel good factor that’s up there. Whether it’s for your own use or to tempt your guests, farmer’s markets will make your shopping for fresh foods so easy too so they are an all round winner. When planning a trip further afield than my local farmer’s market recently I found that local airports provide some great choices in terms of Flights on offer across a wide range of destinations. I am working on the “look local” principle as a start to planning trips overseas as well as my food shopping from now on.

Unless you live in a more remote and rural area of the UK (and if you do you are likely to have great countryside views and less busy roads to compensate!) then you probably have one or more local airports that you can get to easily and quickly whether it be by road, rail or coach. You may well be surprised what range of Flights are available to you from your local airport, offering quick, cheap, accessible travel across Europe but also some long haul and the possibility of using a local flight to make a connection to pick up the best priced long haul from another European city. Your local airport will be smaller but less crowded than the major airports and if your trip is a short one and you use carry-on luggage, then those annoying check- in times are shorter. This will leave you more time to relax, take on some refreshment and prepare for your trip before boarding.

With cheaper Flights available now there’s chance to visit those European cities you may have thought about seeing for some time and doing this over a weekend you cut down on use of that valuable annual leave. You can put your own trip together and choose local accommodation in your destination according to your budget and occasion.

While many are already aware of the great service that Trip Advisor provides, not everyone has heard the news. I have personally relied upon their rating system for hotels in three different countries as of yet, and never been anything less than thrilled with the turn out. It is set up well, and provides extremely accurate, and useful info.

So, when my mom mentioned she wanted to take a family holiday to Destin Florida, and she thought she would rely upon places we had previously stayed a good ten to fifteen years ago, I butted in. I let her know that the most recent journey I took to Thailand, a place that was completely new to both me and my spouse, we turned to Trip Advisor. She had seen all kinds of pictures from that trip and agreed it was a good thought. Of course, by adding my two cents to the planning process, I ultimately was just asking to be given the whole roll. Luckily, I know how to simplify it.

Well, I cannot say that the airlines are making things easy for us to travel. If only they would get together and establish a consistent set of rules for luggage then I believe whole heartedly that things would roll smoother at ticket counters.

For example, should you be flying Easy Jet on one leg of your travels, then you will not be restricted to any amount of weight for your carry on luggage, as long as it fits in their handy dandy metal framed box. But, if your next flight is with FlyBE, then you are limited to 12kgs, and anything over will cost you £30 additional pounds. Oddly enough, they do not seem to be too mindful of the size of the carry on.

During my flights in Dec, I was tested by Easy Jet three times at different places in the airport. Two times I was told to prove that my bag would fit in the metal box, even though I had proof that I had been checked at the check in counter. Then I was forced to show that I could lift my suitcase above my head in order to put the bag in the overhead, even though I was traveling with my boyfriend who could assist with that task.

Then, on my FlyBE flight I had to remove two shirts and a scarf to bring the bag to the proper size, and wear them till I got passed security. Absurd is the word that comes to mind. After all, it was over by .6, and the weight would still have boarded the plane on my body. Not to mention the fact that I weigh 101 pounds, so should easily be entitled to a bit of leeway for that alone.

So, until they regulate these things better, be sure to check your airlines nonsensical restrictions. Unless, like me, you will pile on layers at the counter to prove a point.
